In 2015, Sandra Bland was on her way to the grocery store. She was pulled over for changing lanes without using her signal. Her encounter with the police officer escalated, which resulted in her being arrested. After being locked up, she was found dead in her cell 3 days later. Her death was ruled homicide, which was protested and disputed by supporters. Texas authorities and the FBI conducted an investigation into her death and concluded that Waller County Jail did not follow the proper procedures. The arresting officer was, unfortunately, found not guilty in relation to her death, but he was found guilty of perjury and fired from the police department.
Did Sandra Bland actually take her own life? Or was there foul play? We may never know.
HBO's documentary Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland airs on December 3rd at 10p.
