Good Samaritans Lift Car To Rescue Woman Trapped Underneath

Last Thursday, 73-year-old Zoa Mendez was rescued by a group of strangers and law enforcement after being trapped beneath her car in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The accident happened while she was making flower deliveries, and her car, left in drive, rolled onto her leg, pinning her under the vehicle. The dramatic rescue, which was captured on video, shows a group of people joining forces to lift the car off her.

One of the bystanders, Elvis Burgos, describes the moment, saying, “She was screaming for help and grabbing onto my leg, and I was just trying to lift the car.” Witnesses recount how multiple individuals worked together to raise nearly half the car's weight. “A lot of people helped her,” one eyewitness recalls, “I don’t know what would have happened if she didn’t have anyone to help.”

Mendez was freed and rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for injuries to her legs. Authorities report that she’s expected to recover fully and they’re crediting the swift and courageous actions of the bystanders for saving her life.
