The Breakfast Club Address Trans Issues With Malik Yoba + LGBTQ Activists

Malik Yoba stopped by The Breakfast Club following his Instagram post–awakened by the suicide of Reese Willoughby–about his open attraction to trans women. Joining Malik were LGBTQ activists Mr. David Johns (From the National Black Justice Coalition NBJC), Nala Simone Touissant, and Carmen Carrera (Wihelmina Model, known from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3). The four brought a light to LGBTQ and Trans-related topics that need to be talked about to each other, the world, and at The Breakfast Club.

David John’s made a valuable point in saying Malik did not come out, but he stepped up. Malik stepped up and above the status quo to be open about a serious topic and a conversation people of all communities are afraid to have. Malik shared that he knew he felt liberated and ready to “step up” when he attended world pride in June with Carmen Carrera. During the parade, Malik decided to come from the back of the parade float to the front next to Carmen amongst thousands on Fifth Avenue in New York City. He proudly explained, “In that moment, I felt pride”.

What really makes change in the world are not only the conversations Malik is opening, but the conversation that was brought to The Breakfast Club. With the desire to be educated and enlightened on the LGBTQ culture and experience from Envy, Yee, and Charlamagne, and joining with educated leaders of the community. This interview replicated the discussions we need to have in this country and around the world about accepting, caring and appreciating one another.

Conversations like this matter because we all as people, the hosts, and our guests come from different places and experiences and every single one of them matter, differ, but also relate and no side should be defensive when the other has nothing but good intentions on being enlightened and educated.
