On recapping last week’s game from the sideline:

“Takeaways – the first thing that jumped off the page to me. That is an emphasis of taking the ball away. We even scored on one. I think tackling can be a little better, but it is hard the first live-bullets game, but that takeaway category is the biggest thing.”

On if he is pleased with what he is seeing from the Browns defense:

“I am happy but not satisfied.”

On CB Martin Emerson Jr.’s and DE Isaiah Thomas’ performance thus far:

“I think it is just competing. On that pick, it looked like it was a fight for the ball. It was like a 50-50 shot, and the guy on Jacksonville wanted it, but Martin had to have it. Just competing on the ball. IT just going out there fighting, motor and just going until the whistle blows. That is one component of having a good defense, but we just have to put everything all together. It was a good start.”

On expectations for joint practices with Philadelphia this week:

“They have a good offense. I was just looking at their roster, and they have a lot of new guys and proven players in this league. It is going to be fun to go out there in a practice setting and compete with those dudes. It counts for something, but obviously, we know we are not keeping score or anything like that. I just see it as a fun opportunity to get better against a great group of guys.”

On if last year’s joint practice with the NY Giants was the climax of training camp for preparation:

“I think so. Usually, the starters do not play in that game when you have joint practices. I think we are going to do that again this year. That is like our game going against guys like that. Last year, we competed. I am not going to say dominated, but I think we won that battle at practice. Just looking forward to doing it again."
