21 Savage has officially kicked off the rollout for his upcoming album.
On Monday, December 8, the Atlanta-based rapper shared the trailer for his fourth studio album, What Happened To The Streets? In the clip he shared to social media, you can hear a preview of the album along with visuals depicting street life and a newborn baby. The album cover was painted by London-based Nigerian artist Olaolu Slawn, who was inspired by Kerry James Marshall’s “A Portrait of the Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self.” The ominous portrait and the trailer appear to signal the birth of 21's next era.
21 Savage began the rollout for his upcoming album at Art Basel in Miami last week. 21 and Slawn created a 20-foot inflatable, moving art piece that debuted at Andrew Salomon Gallery before it appeared at other popular art fairs and galleries, including PRIZM, SCOPE, UNTITLED ART, NADA, CONTEXT, Design Miami, Satellite Art Show, and the Rubell Museum. The work of art made its final stop at Miami's prominent strip club, Booby Trap On the River.
It's been nearly two years since 21 dropped his previous LP, American Dream. It holds the lead single "Redrum" as well as 21's collaboration with Summer Walker, "Prove It." It also features contributions from Doja Cat, Young Thug, Metro Boomin, Lil Durk, Travis Scott, Brent Faiyaz, Burna Boy, Mariah the Scientist and more.
21 Savage's upcoming album drops December 12. Check more scenes of his art piece with Slawn at Art Basel, and listen to a preview of his next DMX-inspired single below.
