Mary J. Blige is firing back at Misa Hylton amid their legal battle over Vado's record deal.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday, July 29, the veteran singer's attorney, Lisa Moore, called Hylton's lawsuit "patently frivolous." Moore alleged that Hylton, who served as Blige's stylist, launched a legal battle against MBJ to harass her and cause "malicious injury" to her career. Hylton filed the $5 million lawsuit in April and accused Blige of destroying her business relationship with Vado after she signed him to her label, Beautiful Life Productions, even after the New York rapper had already committed to her management company, M.I.S.A. Management.
Hylton's lawsuit cites two agreements Vado signed in 2023. The 40-year-old artist reportedly signed a management deal with Hylton on July 25, and a recording deal with Blige's Beautiful Life Productions on October 1. Blige and Vado collaborated on the singer's song “Still Believe in Love,” which dropped the same year he signed with her. Hylton also alleged Blige's head of security, who she claims is also Blige's boyfriend, wanted to sign Vado himself. He allegedly told Vado to sign a new contract without legal representation. He also warned Vado he could "lose out on opportunities" if he stayed with Hylton's management company.
In the new legal documents, Blige's attorney argued that Hylton filed the lawsuit knowing that her "fabricated" allegations would draw negative attention on social media. Moore also claimed the lawsuit is unsubstantiated and asserted there are text messages showing Vado is the one who mentioned firing Hylton's company first. They also believe both Hylton and Vado are trying to get a settlement out of Blige.
Blige's attorney is also preparing to file a countersuit against Hylton and will request sanctions against her. As of this report, neither Hylton nor Vado has responded to Blige's claims.
