Cleveland City Council members are making a statement about gun violence.

The council on Monday passed a resolution declaring gun violence a public health crisis in the City of Cleveland.

Councilmember Richard Starr -- who sponsored the resolution -- said that between 2019 to 202,4 there were 953 homicides in the city and that, of those, 825 victims were Black people of all different ages who were victimized by gun violence.

Council members say they aim to mobilize resources and partnerships across various sectors, including law enforcement, healthcare, education, and community organizations, to develop comprehensive and proactive strategies to address the issue.
