Rapper Kendrick Lamar has just made one Connecticut family $100K richer. It all stems from a 2022 lawsuit regarding a 2020 incident where Lamar’s “Alright” video was shown in a classroom, as part of a documentary titled “Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America.” The suit was brought by the family of a boy who, according to the suit, has a “diagnosed learning disorder” and an “individualized educational plan,” and was also the son of a police officer. The video in question “depicted officers and murderers and contained other shockingly violent scenes and controversial statements about police officers.”
- The suit claimed that the kid suffered “PTSD, anxiety, depression, shock, confusion, sadness, feeling unsafe, and social withdrawal” as a result
- The Vernon Town Council agreed to the settlement last week, but it’s still awaiting approval from the Board of Education
- The $100K is intended to help the family “recoup tuition costs after the student was transferred to another school that can meet his needs”
Reportedly, the teacher who showed the video had been “reprimanded in the past for his choice of videos shown to or assigned to his students”
